Titled, “The Hair Tales” and broadcast on Refinery29, it is hosted by Michaela Angela Davis. The concept of officially moving from childhood to manhood has deep roots in African culture. This is one of my favorites on the list and has earned a number of honors.. I brought it home from the library and started reading it aloud to my 5 year old. Dimensions endeavors to create a place where women of color feel comfortable and included in the Syracuse University and larger Syracuse communities. How would these obstacles or resistances hinder the hero/heroine? Highlights some of the educational issues discussed at the black deaf conference held in Atlanta, Georgia. Akeelah and the Bee is a rarity among African American kids' movies in that it is an original story written by its director Doug Atchison. "That alone," states Esther Iverem in Seeing Black, gives it "a freshness in the characters, dialog and story that keeps it from falling into the predictable mire of movies with 'good intentions' toward Black children."
